RECOVERED

I have had a rare set of 8 cup bells taken from my home in Okehampton
Devon in the period 4th of July 2011, 13th July 2011, and are No 1 to 8
on the leather handles, plus the No 8 bell has my name C. I. Hayes. MELLS
stamped in the bend of the leather handle, these have rather unusual
clapper assemblies, No’s 2 to 8 have round brass tubes with leather pegs
screwed into the ends laying parallel to the bell mouth, with 4 flat
brass pivots two at each end on either side of the tube, the treble bell
(No1) has a solid square block of brass approx 1/2″ long with a strip of
felt stitched over it. The bells are in an aluminium case approx 12″
long by 9″ wide by 10″ high. In the lid are some sheets of plain hunt &
plain bob minor the bells are all packed in foam rubber one piece has 9
holes in it 8 of which slide down over the bell handles. The leather
caps are originals & have the stamping patterns of Shaw & sons of
Bradford of the late 1800’s, from memory I re-tuned the bells to an odd
key of Eb,If you see or hear of these bells please contact the police
with the crime ref No of:- J011485 I will try and add a picture of bells
& case to the photo’s section. With Thanks C. Ian Hayes.
