Police in Ross-on-Wye are investigating the theft of 31 Friesian bullocks from a farm in nearby Pencraig.

The animals were stolen between 10.30pm on Monday, 16 April and 6.50am today (Tuesday, 17 April) from a barn located just off the A40.

A series of gates were damaged in order to get into the barn that housed the 25 nine-month-old and six four-month-old bullocks which were subsequently stolen.

None of the animals were stolen with their individual passports and this would make it difficult for whoever has stolen the cattle to dispose of them legitimately via any reputable slaughterhouse.

The youngest bullocks are too young even to be of any immediate monetary value as far as meat production is concerned. All of the animals have a yellow plastic tag in their right ear with their individual passport number and a metal one in their left ear bearing the same information.

The barn is within the 50mph zone of the A40 in Pencraig and the police would like to hear from anyone who saw any people or large vehicles in the area between the times given above.
