York police are trying to trace the owner of a distinctive piece of jewellery which is believed to have been stolen during a burglary.
Officers have recovered a nine carat gold chain which was exchanged for cash at Money Spinner on Gillygate.
Officers have released an image of the chain in an effort to find out who it belongs to and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
PC Oliver Ingham, of York police, said: “At a glance, the necklace would appear to be a gold chain with T-bar attached. However, on closer inspection it looks to be a chain onto which an old-fashioned fob watch would hang from a waist coat.
It is suspected that this item may have been stolen during a burglary in York and we would like to find out who the rightful owner is.
Anyone who can help officers with their enquiries is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for Oliver Ingham or York Priority Crime Team.
