Almost £10,000 worth of jewellery has been stolen from an elderly woman in Newcastle.

Jewellery valued at around £8,500 was taken.

Many of the items taken have extreme sentimental value, including two engagement rings given to the woman by her late husband.

One of the items taken was a distinctive watch which was part of a his and hers set.

The watch face carries the words Diamond Offshore and the rear is engraved with the following words:

OCEAN YORKTOWN
2000
1 YEAR
NO R.D.C

The watch is a Bulova.
